The Complete Guide to Linking PAN-Aadhaar: From Penalty Payment to Final Steps

The deadline for linking your PAN and Aadhaar cards has now passed. This means that if you haven't linked your PAN with Aadhaar yet, you'll have to pay a mandatory penalty of ₹1,000.

This guide will help you understand the entire process, from paying the penalty to submitting the final linking request. Before starting the process, the first and most important step is to check the current status of your PAN-Aadhaar linking.

1. Before you begin: Check your linking status

1.1. Why Checking First is a Smart Move

It's wise to check the status before starting the linking process. The biggest advantage is that if your PAN is already linked to Aadhaar, you'll avoid paying unnecessary penalties and going through the entire process. Sources indicate that many PAN cards issued in the past few years have been linked to Aadhaar, so they're often already linked.

1.2. How to Check Your Status

You can check your status by following these simple steps:

  2. Click on 'Link Aadhaar Status' in the 'Quick Links' section on the home page .
  3. Enter your PAN number and Aadhaar number.
  4. Click on 'View Link Aadhaar Status' button.

You will then see one of two messages:

  • If Linked: Your PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar. (i.e., "Your PAN is already linked with the given Aadhaar.")
  • If not linked: PAN Not Linked with Aadhaar. Please click on 'Link Aadhaar' link to link your Aadhaar with PAN. (i.e., "PAN is not linked with Aadhaar. Please click on the 'Link Aadhaar' link to link your Aadhaar with PAN.")

If your PAN isn't linked, you can skip to the next step by clicking the blue 'Link Aadhaar' link right here. This will save you one step.
